Welcome to Sound Medicine

About Dr. Miriam Burger

Created with Sketch.

My name is Dr. Miriam Lee Burger MD.  My mission is to advance the transdisciplinary field of sound and medicine and innovate the landscape of healthcare, prevention, and therapy, through professional collaboration for the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs.
I am an SDG3 expert at the
World Health Innovation Summit CIC  (WHIS) where consultants, companies, and academics collaborate to improve healthcare. We connect the dots in healthcare and set processes in motion. A transdisciplinary approach, collaboration and multilateral thinking are a must. We invite experienced healthcare stakeholders and research visionaries to join WHIS' mission.

As an MD and researcher, I have worked clinically in Vienna and Zurich in the fields of pain therapy including academic research training at the University Hospital Vienna AKH, in mental health, and global health at the University of Zurich,  University of Geneva, and Harvard University Cambridge USA. My latest research in 2022 covered strategic priorities of the healthcare system illustrated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

As a sound meditation and sonic medicine practitioner, I started out in 2013 out of sheer curiosity while on my quest in understanding the impact of music on the human sense of self. Over the past decade, I gradually grew extensive knowledge and numberless in-person and/or digital training experience - from internationally established teachers and programs, i.e. meditation teachers Sharon Salzberg, Peg Baim, MS, ANP-BC, Joan Halifax, Jon Kabat Zinn, Don Conreaux, Olga Klimecki, and many others around the globe.

As a professional violinist and musician, the creative arts have been my choice and expressive tool.  For the past 17 years,  I have worked on various international projects ranging from orchestras to rock-pop bands to the film industry in Zurich, New York, and Los Angeles, and have grown a diverse ecosystem of artists and scientists around me.

My roots are Asian and European, and I spent extensive phases in other parts of the world, especially in Asia. I have always lived in different cultural contexts on my journey beyond what meets the eye. Throughout my path, I have observed how pervasive imbalances are in our society, and I realized the meaningfulness of striving for a culture of reconnection, transformation, and conscious growth - to promote sustainable social development in an increasingly complex world - where we foster connectedness and belong together.
